Ohio State Buckeyes

Although they lost freshman guard DJ Carton to the transfer portal, the Buckeyes got good news with the official return of starting point guard CJ Walker, who led the team with 3.5 apg last season. There will be a need to replace him, with Bucknell transfer Jimmy Sotos as the current option after he sits next season.

But let’s be honest. If a coach has to hurt feelings in order to land a top-tier individual, they’ll do it. And Ohio State was another finalist for Nembhard two years ago so there’s already a connection between the player and coaching staff. With there being such a difference in talent between Sotos and Nembhard, the Buckeyes will at least get a feeling if they have a true shot this time around or just stay pat with what they have.

Oregon Ducks

The Ducks are in a similar spot to Michigan State, having to replace a Conference Player of the Year and a multi-year starter in Payton Pritchard. Combo guard Will Richardson and four-star point guard Jalen Terry will share the duties next season and should be enough to keep the team in NCAA Tournament contention.

But head coach Dana Altman has no issue using the transfer portal to add talent. He already landed Aaron Estrada and grad transfer Amauri Hardy, along with Eric Williams and Eugene Omoruyi, who each sat out this past season for Oregon. Point guard is a question mark for this team and it wouldn’t be a surprise if they went after Nembhard to shore it up for 2021-22.
