14. AAC Basketball recruit rankings – Ricky Council IV (Wichita State)

Ricky Council IV’s senior season at South Durham High School ended with a North Carolina High School Athletic Association quarter-final loss, but the 6’6 shooting guard would be selected to the North Carolina All-State Third Team. Eleven days after that honor was bestowed upon him, the three-star guard committed to Wichita State Basketball over Appalachian State.

After an 11-7 conference record which saw coach Greg Marshall and the Shockers finish fourth in the AAC, backcourt starters Erik Stevenson (11.1 PPG) and Jamrious Burton (10.3 PPG) entered the transfer portal. Coach Marshall will be able to put sophomore Tyson Etienne (9.4 PPG)  at point guard along with grad transfer Alterique Gilbert (8.5 PPG, 3.8 APG) from former AAC member UCONN, there is no such luxury at shooting guard.

This scenario is where Council IV gets his opportunity to make an impact. His guard skills will translate to the college level, where he will probably perform better. Council IV was not the primary ball-handler on his high school team and went long stretches where he would not get a deserved amount of touches.

Council IV enjoys spotting up for a jumper beyond the arc but is able to use the dribble to create space. He shoots more than he drives to the rim, but when he is at the rim he is able to get above it, even in traffic. Council IV will make an impact within an offensive system where the open shot will be a by-product of his skilled teammates shifting the defense.
