NCAA Basketball contender for Daeshun Ruffin – LSU Tigers

Will Wade has been thriving on the recruiting trail over the last several years and has not been shy about signing smaller guards. Tremont Waters thrived under Wade for two seasons prior to entering the professional ranks and has a very similar game to Ruffin. Waters may have naturally utilized the pick-and-roll more than frequently than Ruffin does, but both are strong facilitators and elevate the roster around them.

Incoming guard and elite scorer Cam Thomas does not project to be on the 2021 roster, but fellow freshman Eric Gaines and Jalen Cook will compete for minutes with Ruffin once he arrives. The Tigers are still chasing 5-star Kennedy Chandler and J.D. Davison in the class as well, but Ruffin could be in the mix for a significant role even if they sign with the program.

LSU has developed players well under Will Wade and would conceivably have a good core of players around Ruffin on the 2021 roster. Top-40 center Jerrell Colbert has already committed to the Tigers, while Georgetown transfer Josh Leblanc and freshman Mwani Wilkinson could also create problems for defenses on the wings. If Ruffin lands with the program, he will thrive in an offense that provides a lot of freedom to players all over the court.
