NCAA Basketball contender for Daeshun Ruffin – Florida Gators

Mike White has recruited top athletes over the last several seasons suggesting there were plans for an up-tempo offense. However, he has failed to do this and optimize the talents of his roster. Backcourt players Scottie Lewis, Tre Mann and Ques Glover failed to thrive in a stagnated system. It may not be all bad news though for someone of Ruffin’s talents.

Adept at breaking down defenses and creating his own shots, he would be able to come right in and play comfortably within his skillset. The only issue is playing time in a crowded backcourt. The 2021 team will likely have some combination of Tre Mann, Ques Glover and Cleveland State transfer Tyree Appleby. The latter has already proven himself at the Division 1 level and may stunt the breakouts of Mann and Glover next season. Ruffin’s scoring prowess, playmaking ability and defensive strengths will help him to compete and potentially jump one of the other guards left on the roster, likely Glover more so than Mann.

Joining the Gators is further complicated by Mike White seemingly looking to sign multiple point guards in the 2021 class. Top-100 recruits Rahsool Diggins, Carter Whitt and Ryan Nembhard, among several others inside the top-200, are still actively considering committing to the program. There’s little doubt Ruffin can make a name for himself with the storied Florida program, but the path to success is far from being smooth.
