NCAA Basketball power rankings – UCLA Bruins

The unexpected decision of five-star guard Dashien Nix to the G League rocked Bruin fans this offseason. But that still doesn’t lessen the potential of this upcoming season, assuming leading scorer Chris Smith does return for his senior campaign. That would give UCLA its top five returning scorers and a host of reserves.

Forwards Jalen Hill and Cody Riley will have another year to develop, while point guard Tyger Campbell (5.0 apg) remains as the key facilitator. Wings Jake Kyman and Jaime Jaquez Jr., who helped spearhead the second-half run for the team last season, will be back as well. Adding to the depth is four-star wing Jaylen Clark and Johnny Juzang, who transferred from Kentucky this offseason and was recently given a waiver by the NCAA to play immediately. He’ll be needed to provide a shooting boost for the Bruins.

The production provided from both Riley and Hill will have a major impact on what UCLA does next season, along with the overall offensive production. They won a lot in Pac-12 play but teams now have a full year of tape on the Bruins and their unique style of Coach Cronin. That worked in Cincinnati in the AAC but it remains to be seen how it’ll work in the Pac-12, now with a target on their back.
