NCAA Basketball power rankings – Villanova Wildcats

Between Myles Powell and Markus Howard’s elite scoring, and Seton Hall/Creighton having great and noticeable campaigns, Villanova kind of fell into the backcourt, as what they did was more or less expected. Folks won’t have a choice but to pay attention to the Wildcats next season, as they could very well be the best NCAA Basketball team in 2020-21.

For now, there are literally no roster transactions to speak of, as everyone is set to return for Villanova. That includes the entire starting lineup, who all averaged in double figures. The most important player of the group is Collin Gillespie, who put up 15.1 ppg and 4.5 apg. He, Justin Moore, and leading scorer Saddiq Bey are all outstanding players, while forwards Jeremiah Robinson-Earl and Jermaine Samuels will handle the frontcourt.

The biggest x-factors for the Wildcats will be how Bryan Antoine and Caleb Daniels are incorporated into the rotation. Antonie is a former five-star guard who couldn’t crack the rotation after missing the first two months of the season with an injury. He didn’t leave though and should have a role on the offense, although it may be another year before seeing his maximum potential. Daniels is a proven elite scorer, putting 16.9 ppg as a sophomore at Tulane before transferring and sitting out. He likely will have to come off the bench but could be an instant source of offense to make the team even more formidable.

Bey is still in the NBA Draft process and losing him would be a tough blow. But even without him, the Wildcats would remain in the top-10 and a Final Four contender, along with being the clear favorite to win the Big East. With him though, they could be the team to beat for the national title.
