NCAA Basketball option for Jaylen Warley – Miami Hurricanes

The Hurricanes have struggled to find any semblance of consistency over the last two seasons. There’s hope for change going into the 2020 season with the arrival of Earl Timberlake Jr., but there’s more reason to believe 2021 could be even brighter if Warley enters the fray. Talented guard Chris Lykes will have left the team by then opening up the opportunity for Warley split time with Harlond Beverly and Isaiah Wong as the team’s primary ball-handler.

Pending a breakout year from Beverly and/or Wong, neither showed an overarching ability to create for the team in 2019. Warley’s addition would change that for the Canes betterment and would allow for Wong and Beverly to see quality looks or create bigger driving lanes. His combination of size and physicality alter how effective this team can be within the conference.

Last season the Canes had issues with ball movement and defensive traps on point guard Chris Lykes severely limited the fluidity of Miami’s offense. This is an area Warley can markedly boost the offensive production of Jim Larranaga’s roster. A commitment to the Canes would afford him a lot of freedom to control game flow on both ends of the floor and become a top priority of the team’s offensive plans.
