Potential NCAA Basketball option for Blake Hinson – Utah Utes

The wing/forward position was supposed to be one of strength for Utah this offseason. But with the transfer of Both Gach and incoming freshman Caleb Lohner’s sudden defection to BYU, that’s now become a clear roster problem to be dealt with. They should be fine for the upcoming season, as long as leading scorer Timmy Allen does decide to return for another year.

With point guard Rylan Jones coming back and good frontcourt depth returning and gaining experience, there’s a lot to work with for a perspective transfer such as Hinson who could have a big role. Wings have had big seasons under head coach Larry Krystkowiak but as this offseason has shown, players continue to transfer each offseason. There’s a roster fit here but maybe the overall situation will be hard to persuade a transfer that isn’t from Salt Lake.

Potential NCAA Basketball option for Blake Hinson – West Virginia Mountaineers

An under the radar program that I feel should add a transfer this offseason is West Virginia, who still has yet to address the offensive issues on the perimeter. They’ll be okay for next season with Derek Culver and Oscar Tshiebwe leading the way but if both decide to leave in 2021, and none of the guards break out in a meaningful way, head coach Bob Huggins would be in big trouble for 2021-22.

Hinson is by no means a 20+ ppg scorer who would solve all the potential problems but he’s someone that could fit into the “Press Virginia” system after a year as a redshirt and his versatility would be sorely needed against the likes of Kansas and Texas Tech. Elite scoring transfers probably wouldn’t be interested in the Mountaineers anyways so this might be the kind of pairing that could benefit both parties.

While Hinson had a sizable role at Ole Miss, it’ll be very interesting to see how he’s utilized at his next stop. It’s not to say that he was misused but sometimes the surrounding players force an individual to play a certain way. Let’s see how it works out for this transfer, wherever he goes.
