14. The Basketball Tournament power rankings – Team Brotherly Love

Actual Ranking: #12 – Round of 24 Matchup:  #21 Stillwater Stars (Oklahoma State alumni) on July 4th

This is another TBT team that doesn’t have many big names but proves the doubters wrong with success. During the TBT selection show, Fran Fraschilla expressed high praise for this team, stating how he “loves the dynamic of a bunch of neighborhood kids from Philly” and later added that this team is a “sneaky, sneaky, dangerous team that is a dark horse for a championship.”

Team Brotherly Love has high chemistry and prides themselves on their hometown roots of Philadelphia. They have four Temple alums on the roster as well. In an impressive Elite 8 run last year, they knocked out championship contender Armored Athlete (ranked #15 this year) in the second round before taking down another contender in Boeheim’s Army (Syracuse alumni and ranked #3 this year). Syracuse fans are in the top-tier of fanbases that provide support for their TBT team, and Team Brotherly Love won the Super 16 in a road environment, playing in Syracuse, New York.

Former Drexel star Samme Givens has really made a name for himself in the TBT, and he’s always been a scoring and rebounding machine, securing 1,226 points and 1,059 rebounds at Drexel. Former Creighton Mo Watson star returns to team Brotherly Love. Before tearing his ACL his senior year, he was the heart and soul of a Creighton team that was top 7 in the nation when he got injured, dishing out 8.5 assists his senior year to go along with 12.9 points. Former Rider star Novar Gadson is another core guy returning as he has really made a name for himself and shined on this platform like Samme Givens.

What separates Team Brotherly Love from other teams is the team chemistry and team camaraderie. With TBT experience, every player on the team executes their role. With the talent level at an all-time high in the TBT this year, that could definitely be a concern, but Team Brotherly Love has been counted out before and exceeded team expectations.
