18. The Basketball Tournament power rankings – Stillwater Stars

Actual Ranking: #21 – Round of 24 Matchup: #12 Team Brotherly Love

Entering their first year in the TBT, Stillwater Stars brings a lot of star power that most first-year teams simply do not have. Le’Bryan Nash, 2-time All-Big 12 player, averaged 17 points and 6 rebounds in his senior and has NBA level athleticism. He was a top ten recruit in the 2011 recruiting class and he lived up to the hype as Oklahoma State as he had a fantastic career. He didn’t need time to adjust to the college level as he was the Big 12 Rookie of the Year, and I don’t think he’ll need time to adjust in the TBT.

Another 2-time All-Big 12 player on the roster is Markel Brown. He had a meaningful role with Brooklyn Nets from 2014-2016, starting 35 games over the course of those years and also has some NBA experience with the Houston Rockets. Before being selected as a second-round draft pick in 2014, he really showcased his versatile skillset averaging 17.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.9 assists, and 1 steal/block per game. He’s an entertaining player to watch, especially considering he can dunk as few other guards can.

Phil Forte will be one of the best shooters in the tournament, as he is 6th on the Oklahoma State all-time scoring list with 1,746 career points (All-Big 12 in 2015 as well). Arguably the best shooter in program history, he leads Oklahoma State in all-time three-pointers made at a remarkable 329 made three-pointers. With two Kansas alums on the roster, Tyshawn Taylor will be another weapon this team has to offer. A 2012 third-team All-American, he averaged 16.6 points while lead Kansas in assists at 4.8 points, a team that lost to Anthony Davis and the Kentucky Wildcats in the national championship.

Taylor is 17th on the all-time Kansas scoring list with 1,580 career points, definitely not an easy list to climb. While chemistry should be a strength for this team, they will still need to balance the talent on the roster and play well as a collective unit against Team Brotherly Love, a team that knows their roles and executes almost flawlessly.
