Rhode Island Basketball newcomer – Allen Betrand

Guard | 6-foot-5 | 200 lbs. | Towson University, Philadelphia, PA

The Rams added a strong guard with a solid offensive game in Allen Betrand. The 6-foot-5 sharpshooter earned All-CAA Third-Team recognition for the Towson Tigers last season. Betrand averaged 13.6 points as the second-leading scorer. He started all 32 games and led the CAA in free throw shooting at 88.6 percent. His strong shooting can also be demonstrated by his three-point range in averaging 38.7 percent from behind the three-point mark.

Betrand chose the Rams over the likes of Minnesota, Butler, DePaul, Dayton, and Richmond.

“Allen is a strong, mature guard with a powerful offensive game,” Cox said. “He is a potent shooter from the perimeter who also knows how to get to the free-throw line. He understands what it takes to lead a successful program, as he proved with Towson. To be able to add a young man the caliber of Allen is very exciting.”

Betrand will add more Philadelphia talent to this roster which currently has Fatts Russell representing the city. He’ll have two seasons of eligibility with the Rams and will have to sit this next season unless granted a waiver. If not granted a waiver, Allen Betrand will continue to improve his game for the 2021-22 season.
