NCAA Basketball: Analyzing 2021 5-star C Chet Holmgren’s top 7 schools

Georgetown Hoyas
Patrick Ewing is looking for any kind of momentum to bring his alma mater back towards a competitive level. The team suffered a lot of adversity last season and will look to find a new identity entering the 2020 season. However, the program can make a lot of headway by landing an elite prospect like Holmgren.
Similar to Michigan and other programs known for stellar frontcourt players, Georgetown has a very long list of stars proven to have long NBA careers: most notable are Dikembe Mutombo, Roy Hibbert, Alonzo Mourning, Othella Harrington, Greg Monroe and Ewing himself. With the potential for Qudus Wahab to breakout in his sophomore campaign, landing Holmgren would ensure the line continues to more recent seasons. Additionally if Ewing manages to secure the services of a top-5 player, he is bound to find more prospects interested in teaming up with him in D.C.
Although N.C. State transfer Omer Yurtseven seemingly moved away from his perimeter shooting tendencies after joining the Georgetown program, Holmgren’s smooth shooting ability would likely be too much for Ewing to try and alter his new star’s best offensive skill. With a reduced roster allowing him to freely operate on the floor and command a large amount of touches, Holmgren can ensure his own development and the team’s production gives the most bang for their buck.
The defensive pairing of Wahab and Holmgren would also be very formidable for opposing Big East teams to face. Points in the paint would come at a premium and Holmgren and 2020 signee Jamari Sibley have enough range to impact shooting on the perimeter. This team may not have the ideal pieces or rotation to thrive in the conference, but they will be gritty and force teams to grind out wins against them.
