5. DePaul Blue Demons

After three seasons with a total of 29 wins, the 2018 and 2019 campaigns have been much better for DePaul. Dave Leitao finally seems to be getting his guys to play his system on the court and recruits are taking notice. As it stands now, Leitao has received commitments from two top-70 guards and holds the 7th-best class nationally. If they hold true, the Blue Demons may finally have the depth to make noise in the Big East.

Kansas transfer Charlie Moore and top-60 freshman Romeo Weems boosted the Blue Demons performances right out of the gate, prior to disastrous play in conference. Despite their late-season collapse, DePaul was a very efficient team on the floor in all areas but 3-point shooting. Bufkin’s chances of improving this area specifically are strong.

The program needs as many playmakers and scoring options as possible to be a viable option in the conference. Incoming freshman guard Kobe Elvis looks to be a strong contributor from the get-go and 2021 commit Ahamad Bynum will take away even more minutes at the position from Bufkin.

His ability to play both guard positions and thrive is evident and would allow for immediate playing time. However, the lack of consistent success at the program is a big question mark for a player of Bufkin’s talents. He has other options that will provide more success on the court.
