NCAA Basketball: Predicting commitment of 2021 4-star G Kobe Bufkin
By Ian Mumm
4. LSU Tigers
The Tigers program has been thriving under Coach Will Wade. He’s yet to have a losing season on the court and has not finished lower than 32nd in recruiting with the team. Securing his 2nd top-10 class this offseason, the Tigers look to be in good shape to reach the NCAA Tournament for the 3rd straight year.
Wade has been especially strong at recruiting and elevating guards, since arriving in Baton Rouge. Tremont Waters and Skyler Mays previously thrived in his fast-paced offensive system, while incoming guard Cam Thomas looks to be the next in line to elevate the Tigers to success. However, there are areas where this team could improve and utilize Bufkin’s unique talents.
LSU has not necessarily been an efficient or reliant 3-point shooting team since Wade has assumed command of the program. The Tigers frequently attacked the rim and were good at converting around the rim. Forcing turnovers and creating opportunities for teammates were also not high on the productivity scale.
Bufkin’s ability to excel in both of these areas makes him a strong target for Will Wade. The chance for ample offensive looks in this system negates potential logjam issues with the Tigers, but with Eric Gaines and Jalen Cook likely carrying over to the 2021 roster the situation is not the most ideal.
