NCAA Basketball: 10 teams who need strong 2021 recruiting classes
Wake Forest Demon Deacons
With Steve Forbes replacing Danny Manning at the helm of Wake Forest men’s Basketball, Athletic Director John Currie is hoping the Demon Deacons can be more successful than having an above .300 winning percentage just once in the previous six years.
Coach Forbes’ first opportunity to steer the ship will be with the 2021 recruiting class. By the time the 2021-22 season rolls around, the Demon Deacons’ four top scorers will have graduated, potentially leaving lone top-100 RSCI recruit Isaiah Mucius in Winston-Salem. Prior to being replaced, Danny Manning put together the No.95 nationally ranked recruiting class. The top freshman is Emmanual Okpomo at No. 317.
With no recruits committed for 2021 Coach Forbes will be able to fill it with guys of his choosing. If he is lucky, Virginia Tech transfer Isaiah Wilkins (4.3 ppg) will still be around to provide some senior leadership and perhaps some scoring as sophomores only attributed to 3.5 ppg in 2019-20. Some might describe this as a no-lose situation for Forbes at the start of his tenure, but he will be expected to turn things around and get Wake Forest beyond the First Four for the first time in eleven years.
