Point Guards

PG 1 – Wabissa Bede

Bede will yet again be the floor general of the Hokies and the only player left from the Hokie’s Sweet 16 team from two seasons ago. Bede averaged five points, five assists, three rebounds, and one steal per game last year. Bede also showcases elite defense and is a prolific passer. He rarely makes mistakes with the ball, as he averages just one turnover per game. The downside to Bede’s skill set is his lack of consistency in shooting from the field.

Bede shot 22% from the three-point line and 50% from the free throw line. The Hokies do have enough shooting to cover Bede’s inefficiency, however it would be huge for Mike Young if Bede could hit the three-point shot more efficiently. Either way though, Bede will be on the court a lot for Virginia Tech and will be asked to manage the floor.

PG 2- Jalen Cone

Cone may be listed as the backup point guard, but he is one of the more important players on the Hokies bench. His standing at only 5’10  averaged eight points a game, one rebound, and 0.7 assists. Cone’s biggest weapon is his elite range from beyond the arc, as he shot 45% from three last season, which led the entire ACC. And it was evident that Cone did not hit his stride until Tech’s win over Syracuse on Jan.18. Cone is bound to have a bigger role on the team and an opportunity to shine with a full season of consistent minutes.
