Shooting Guards

SG-1 Cartier Diarra

Diarra looks to be the best player on a very talented Virginia Tech team. He averaged thirteen points, three rebounds, four assists, and one steal. Diarra fits perfectly in what Mike Young wants to do in his offense. As over 47% of Diarra’s shot attempts are three-pointers. His usage rate was outstanding lat season at K-State with 27% and he also had a 32.6 percent assist rate, which was top-50 nationally. Diarra is a huge get for the Hokies and should give teams in the ACC problems this upcoming season.

SG-2 Tyrece Radford

Radford was so effective last year when he played. He averaged 10 points, six rebounds, and one assist while shooting 60% from the field. Radford ranked 13th nationally in offensive rating, 41th in effective field goal percentage, No. 47 in turnover rate, and No. 42 in two-point percentage. These stats show that Radford’s impact goes beyond just the box score. Radford led the Hokies in rebound last year as a 6’1 guard. Radford can be considered the back up shooting guard. But he will be playing a lot next season for the Hokies, as he is one of their best players and you will see him and Diarra on the court together a lot next season.

SG-3 Hunter Cattoor

Cattoor like Cone is another consistent shooter for the Hokies. Cattoor averaged six points, two rebounds, and one assist while shooting 41% from the field and 40% from behind the arc. Cattoor is another one of the more used pieces on Mike Young’s bench as Young tends to lean on his bench play. Look for some plays this season to be run for Cattoor off of screens as he is statistically the second best shooter returning for the Hokies in 2020-2021.
