St. John’s Red Storm

Despite losing key contributors from the 2018-19 season, Coach Mike Anderson managed to keep the team afloat. His 17-15 mark was without a top-flight guard like Shamorie Ponds and limited availability of wing LJ Figueroa. Heavy use of guards in his system should make some of those losses easier to withstand in the coming years if recruiting momentum can pick up.

The addition of Riley to the Red Storm roster would provide Anderson with a physical backcourt presence capable of creating his own shot. Incoming freshman guards Dylan Wusu and Posh Alexander are likely to develop prior to the 2021 season with plenty of on-court opportunities. Utilizing a bigger guard alongside them will be very beneficial to the Johnnies, who were in the bottom 50 teams nationally scoring inside the perimeter and overall shooting marks.

St. John’s was the first program to offer Riley and the proximity to home could play into his decision. The early opportunities to positively impact the team and develop on the floor are good signs for a possible commitment, as well as great competition in the Big East.
