Atlantic 10 Basketball: Breakout candidates from each team for 2020-21

F, Joel Soriano – Fordham

Joel Soriano is Fordham’s breakout candidate for the 2020-21 season. Soriano is going into his sophomore season for the Fordham Rams. The forward is expected to have more minutes this season under head coach, Jeff Neubauer. Soriano has already proven to be a great addition to this program. He brings great height to a program that is looking to improve.

Prior to Fordham, Joel Soriano attended and graduated from Stepanic High School in White Plains, NY. He helped Stepanic High School win the 2018 CHSAA ‘AA’ city championship, its first since 1960, in Fordham’s Rose Hill Gymnasium. Stepinac closed out the year ranked number one in the state and the school’s first Federation tournament title ever.

As a freshman at Fordham Soriano moved into the starting lineup due to injuries and responded by recording five double-doubles over the final six games. He appeared in 30 games at forward for the Rams in 2019-2020, starting in 12. He led the team in blocks and second in the team in rebounding. Joel Soriano has already made a huge impact on this program and will continue to thrive in the Bronx for the Rams going forward.
