F, Tyler Burton – Richmond

Tyler Burton is Richmond’s breakout candidate for the 2020-21 season. Burton is going into his sophomore season for the Richmond Spiders. He is coming off an exceptional freshman year and will continue to bring a lot of talent to this program.

Burton also has a very high basketball IQ growing up in a family with a lot of experience. Tyler’s father, Quinton, played basketball at Providence, leading the Friars to the NCAA Tournament in 1989 and 1990.

In high school, Burton was awarded two-time All-State selection at Marianapolis Prep in Thompson, Ct. In addition, he was named Class B Player of the Year by the New England Preparatory School Athletic Council (NEPSAC) following his junior and senior seasons. Burton averaged 20 points and 11 rebounds as a junior and 18 points and 11 rebounds as a senior. He was rated a top-10 Class of 2019 recruit in the state of Connecticut and a top-30 recruit in New England.

As a freshman, Burton appeared in all 30 games, making one start at Hampton. Burton averaged 14.1 minutes per game which was seventh in team rankings. He also ranked sixth on the team with 4.6 points per game and fourth on the team with 3.9 rebounds per game. The 6-foot-7 forward finished third on the team in total blocks with 14.

Burton will bring a lot of promise to the Richmond Spiders who hope to be one of the Atlantic 10’s contenders this upcoming season.
