2. Michigan Wolverines

The Wolverines have been one of the most active programs on the recruiting trail in this class. The hard work is paying off because Juwan Howard is more often than not finding himself in the thick of a recruit’s decision. In the case of Akins’ recruitment, Michigan has been hot on his heels since the start of this year.

After the 2020 season, Michigan is staring issues of backcourt depth right in the face. Incoming freshman Zeb Jackson and recent 2021 commit Kobe Bufkin look to be the only two players on next season’s roster to cover either guard spot. The Wolverines could really use the addition of Akins to their ranks purely to resolve the depth problem, but his skill set could thrive with the program as well.

Howard didn’t change a ton from Beilein’s offense. He catered to the strengths of his team and even allowed them to run a little more free-flowing and increased transition opportunities. This bodes great for Akins as a primary ball-handler and scoring threat. He will excel in transition with explosiveness near the rim, off of the Wolverines defensive stops, and can be a big-time offensive initiator in Ann Arbor.
