St. John’s Red Storm

With LJ Figueroa transferred out and Mustapha Heron having graduated, that leaves rising senior point guard Rasheem Dunn as the key returning perimeter player for the Red Storm. Joining him is JUCO newcomer Vince Cole, along with recruits Posh Alexander and Dylan Wusu.

St. John’s who’ll need both an experienced guard and one who can shoot (team was ranked 9th out of 10 in Big East three-point percentage). However, if the team lands four-star class of 2021 guard Jordan Riley this weekend, then that could very well take them out of the sweepstakes for a transfer guard like Kunkel.

Xavier Musketeers

This team has been using the transfer portal to find quality shooters in the past couple of years, with Gardner-Webb guard Nate Johnson the latest example on the roster. The 44% three-point shooter will only be around for one year, along with rising senior starter guard Paul Scruggs.

They do have a pair of talented four-star freshmen guards in Dwon Odom and C.J. Wilcher but their impact at the college level is unknown. At the very least, Kunkel would be the shooting specialist Xavier needs for the 2021-22 season, and with the team being another regional option, this could end up being a top-tier choice for him to consider.

Expect more teams to get involved for Mr. Kunkel than the first 10 but the odds of him choosing one in the Midwest region are high. If Kentucky is serious and makes an offer, they could be the team to beat. But considering the success with landing transfers some of the other coaches have had, it could be anyone’s to gain for the sharpshooting Belmont scorer.
