NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top-100 PG Tyty Washington top 10 teams
San Diego State Aztecs
This is a good time for the Aztecs to target top-100 point guards, coming off the season Mountain West Player of the Year Malachi Flynn just had for the team’s historic campaign. He’s gone but has been replaced by Cal State Northridge transfer Terrell Gomez for the upcoming season. The position will be open once he’s gone, allowing someone like Washington to come in and have an early impact.
While most of the teams on this list fits Washington from an offensive standpoint, San Deigo State could be a great balance overall. The point guard can provide his elite scoring and offensive skills while fitting well into their defensive gameplan. It worked well for Flynn, who has a similar build and style as this top-100 recruit. And whereas fellow Mountain West contender New Mexico is coming off a dumpster fire of a season, the Aztecs have been one of the most stable and consistent programs out west.
USC Trojans
The Trojans are off to a great start in the 2021 class, led by four-star shooting guard commits Malik Thomas and Reese Dixon-Waters. They’ll need to have a quality group to replace as many as seven USC current roster players, including the four grad transfers picked up this offseason.
The issue with USC for Washington is that the current starting point guard Ethan Anderson is only a rising sophomore. He has his scoring issues but is a sound passer and could be an effective four-year starter. Considering who the Trojans already picked up in the 2021 recruiting class, it’ll be hard for Washington to play off-ball. And unless Anderson struggles, the recruit in question would have to be willing to be a primary reserve. USC should definitely find a future point guard but a top-100 talent may be a reach right now as long as Anderson is around.
