3. Arizona State

One of the biggest surprises in the Pac-12 last season was the rise of Bobby Hurley’s Sun Devils, who used a seven-game win streak to finish tied for third in the conference. Then in the offseason, the Sun Devils landed a commitment from five-star guard Josh Christopher but had to wait as Alonzo Verge, Remy Martin, and Romello White all declared for the draft. White decided to return to college and transfer to Ole Miss, but Verge and Martin announced they were back to form one of the deadliest scoring backcourts in America.

Martin was the catalyst for the Sun Devils last season averaging just under 20 points per game and four assists, Verge scored more points per game than any player off the bench at 14.6. Both players are lightning quick and can get to the rim at will. Both are terrific college guards, but I can’t see either making the NBA so returning to Tempe seems like a wise move.

Verge and Martin will join Christopher to join arguably the best three-headed monster in college hoops. Add in top 50 freshman Marcus Bagley and the Sun Devils will be a prolific, must-watch team. With Oregon and Arizona being a bit weaker on paper, Bobby Hurley’s squad is in position to win the PAC-12. If they want to accomplish that, Verge and Martin will have to keep up their scoring ways.
