NCAA Basketball: Updated 2020-21 power rankings after NBA Draft deadline
The Seminoles already knew the fates of their top players early on, with both Patrick Williams and Devin Vassell already off to the NBA Draft as projected first-round picks. Add starting point guard Trent Forrest to the mix and you have the team’s top three producers all gone. That would normally be devasting to teams who don’t have annual top-tier recruiting classes but thanks to how head coach Leonard Hamilton operates, FSU will be just fine.
The Seminoles still have right rotation players coming back with another year of experience, including senior guard MJ Walker, along with frontcourt players Raiquan Gray, Malike Osbourne and former top-50 center prospect Balsa Koprivica. The team added a pair of centers this offseason to provide even more depth in Tanor Ngom and Quincy Ballard.
The biggest question that Florida State has to answer is whether or not its perimeter will be good enough to contend for another ACC title. JUCO commit Sardaar Calhoun is a quality scorer while five-star point forward freshman Scottie Barnes will be tasked, alongside Walker to lead the offense. As long as there aren’t big scoring issues, the Seminoles should be up there with UNC and Duke in terms of competing at the top of the league.
