2. Stanford

If you asked Stanford head coach Jerod Hasse last October how he thought his team would look in 2020-2021, he’d probably say top-ten caliber. The Cardinal had zero seniors in their starting five. But Tyrell Terry had a breakout freshman season, entered the draft, and made a good decision to stay in the draft, but one that will hurt Stanford.

Terry, a frail lead guard from Minnesota, was only ranked 88th in RSCI entering the season. But he quickly established himself as one of the top guards. He’s one of the best shooters in the draft, hitting 40 percent of his threes on roughly five attempts per game. He also made 89 percent of his free throws and showed a unique ability to finish around the rim with either hand.

He’s No. 20 on my board and seems to be a consensus top-30 guy amongst NBA teams. His biggest area of improvement is his strength and speed and an NBA weight program is probably better suited to help him with that, so I think Terry made the right choice.

Stanford should still be a good team next season. They return the other four starters in Oscar De Silva, Spencer Jones, Daejon Davis, and Bryce Willis and they bring in five-star wing Ziare Williams. Williams and Jones will be one of the best shooting duos in the country, and if they had Terry, it would have been an unimaginable amount of shooting.

The Cardinal should still have depth, but lack creation ability that Terry brings. The Pac-12 will be crowded at the top with Arizona State and UCLA looking strong, but Hasse’s group will fit in the middle of the pack.
