What the future may have in store

At the end of the day, I don’t know if the keys that I mentioned throughout this article, will ever occur, but I do know that HBCUs will excel in the future if they do. As I have harped on plenty of times in this article, even if the HBCU movement does begin to look promising (and it may already look promising to some of you), it will still take some time to develop. And just because an HBCU program is gifted with two or three 5-star prospects one season, that does not necessarily guarantee them a spot in the final four.

HBCU coaches will have to get used to coaching players that are one and done talents and commit to making sure that those players know that, although their skill-sets are elite, they do not run the team in any way, shape, or form.

As far as the 3 and 4-star prospects go, I believe that they could be the players that help take the HBCU movement the distance. Whether they are coming out of high school or from a power 5/ mid-major school, there is no doubt in my mind that they have the ability to gradually improve the quality of an HBCU program.

I think that I will become a firm believer in the HBCU movement, once more HBCUs show that they can make a run in the NCAA tournament. It is definitely wishful thinking, but it would be nice to see them receive the talent that they have been waiting for and go as far as people would then be expecting them to go.

I could speculate all day about where I think the HBCU movement will stand in the future, but I think, for the time being, I will simply sit back and see how things play out this season with Maker and Eastern.
