Creighton Bluejays

Another program with a great selling point for point guards, the Bluejays are in future need of replacing Mitchell Ballock, along with possibly Marcus Zegarowski if he decides to go pro next season. The team already has a four-star point guard committed in the 2021 class in Ryan Nembhard, brother of Gonzaga guard Andrew Nembhard.

Creighton also has incoming off-guard freshman Rati Andronikashvili part of the future core. They’re looking for another four-star talent to join them and Bates talent is similar to former leading scorer and All-Big East player Ty-Shon Alexander. With an elite offensive system and being able to play in the Big East, the Bluejays should be viewed as a serious contender in this recruitment.

Iowa State Cyclones

Replacing Tyrese Haliburton is going to be a tough task for the Cyclones but Coach Steve Prohm has done a good job adding more talent on the perimeter. That includes transfers Jalen Coleman-Lands and Tyler Harris, along with four-star point 2021 PG commit Tyrese Hunter.

Depending on what Rasir Bolton does, Bates could find himself with a sizeable role for Iowa State as early as his freshman season. If he comes back, then there may not be minutes available. And with the 5’9 Harris on board along with the pure point guard Hunter, Bates would have to play plenty off the ball if he chooses this program. That, along with having to go through a rebuilding process may not have them be a viable contender.
