Point Guards

Starter – Eli Brooks (20 minutes/game)

Others – Mike Smith (15 minutes/game) and Zeb Jackson (5 minutes/game)

The point might be the toughest rotation to assess for the Wolverines right now. Brooks (10.6 ppg, 59 assists) started most games last year as shooting guard but took over the point when Simpson was on the bench. DeJulius also ran some point, but he is gone now.

Smith comes over from Columbia and led the Ivy League and was sixth in the country averaging 22.8 points per game. He can obviously find ways to score, but will that translate over to the Big Ten?

Jackson has a ton of potential, but coming in as a freshman and running point can sometimes be tough. He is definitely in a position where he can ease into the rotation and find more playing time.

Howard can’t go wrong with either Brooks or Smith leading the team and it is very possible that these two are on the court at the same time Either one of them could be the “point guard” while the other is the shooting guard, but still gives Howard two guys that can handle the ball against any defense.

If Smith can show that the Big Ten isn’t too much for him expect him to get just as much playing time as Brooks if not more. But to start the season Howard goes with Brooks to run the point, but don’t be surprised if and when things change.
