Purdue Basketball: Analyzing Boilermakers depth chart for 2020-21 season
Purdue’s expectations for next season
Expectations will be high for Purdue next year. Coming off a season that would have had them looking more like a team fit to be in the NIT than the NCAA tournament, the Boilermakers will be looking to get back to the big dance.
I would expect the Boilermakers to throw out a starting lineup of Stefanovic, Hunter Jr, Williams, Wheeler, and Edey/Dowuona. With the experience for most of these players, I’d say this is one of the better starting lineups in the Big Ten, but still behind some potential powerhouses like Iowa.
The main issue for me is depth as besides Thompson, there aren’t many players on Purdue with recent experience playing high-level basketball. Players like Gillis or some of the freshmen will have to step in to provide quality minutes.
Realistically for Purdue, a top-half Big Ten finish and a single-digit NCAA tournament seed should be the goal. However, an NCAA tournament appearance should be gladly accepted knowing the chaos that ensues in the tournament.
