NCAA Basketball: Examining all 12 programs in play for four-star Blake Wesley
Purdue Boilermakers
With no seniors on the roster, the Boilermakers are going to be careful with who else they target in the 2021 recruiting class to join big man Caleb Furst. The team already has a number of shooting guards, including Sasha Stefanovic and Eric Hunter Jr., along with incoming freshmen Ethan Morton and Jaden Ivey. Wesley could certainly find his own role at Purdue but with a fairly young team overall, he might not be the ideal fit to join the 2021 group.
Texas Longhorns
Already with three commits featuring combo guard Emarion Ellis and a pair of forwards, Texas is looking for a true scoring guard to round out the class. Even with Andrew Jones and Courtney Ramey back for another year after this, there still needs to be a group of newcomer perimeter players to join Ellis. Wesley’s potential shooting issues may be concerning for a program that has struggled in that area but if he can be a future double-digit scorer, Coach Shaka Smart will take it.
Xavier Musketeers
This offseason has been big for the Musketeers in terms of adding perimeter talent. Four-star freshmen guards Colby Jones and C.J. Wilcher are joining the team, along with transfers Adam Kunkel and Benjamin Stanley. With a pair of forwards already committed to Xavier in the 2021 recruiting class, they’re looking for at least one guard to join, with Wesley a potential option.
Kunkel’s arrival does disrupt a potential path for Wesley to get playing time early on and head coach Travis Steele’s desire to add transfers makes things even more difficult to foresee how the future rosters will look. There’s a good match in terms of style of play but the Musketeers are already fairly deep at the shooting guard spot. This program did so well with adding guards that they might not be in a good position to land Wesley.
