NCAA Basketball: Analyzing top-40 forward Bryce Hopkins top 9 teams
Providence Friars
Nearly half of the roster is filled with transfers from other schools, including forwards Noah Horchler and Ed Croswell Jr. With Horchler gone after next season as well as starting center Nate Watson, there are huge holes in the frontcourt that the Friars will have to fill.
Hopkins would be the perfect fit, having a similar game as the now-graduated forward and All-Big East contributor Alpha Diallo. He was also a 6’7 combo forward with great scoring potential and head coach Ed Cooley has quietly developed a number of future pros for the program in recent years. And playing with veteran guards David Duke and AJ Reeves would be of benefit to Hopkins as well.
Texas Longhorns
After recently landing four-star combo guard Tamar Bates, the Longhorns are looking to add more to their 2021 class. With five-star freshman forward Greg Brown very likely gone after one season, there will be a need for another power forward to take his place.
Although the team already has a pair of three-star forward commits in David Joplin and Keeyan Itejere in the class, Hopkins has more of a higher ceiling and could start as a freshman for Texas, using his versatility to boost the offense.
Of course, that could be the one issue that hurts the Longhorns in this process. While head coach Shaka Smart has had great success with centers becoming future lottery picks, forwards and guards have had issues developing into stars in this system. What happens with Brown this upcoming season will be important for future prospects considering the program but it might be too late to convince Hopkins to come to Texas.
