Atlantic 10 Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
14. Fordham Rams
For yet another season, there is no reason to expect anything from the Fordham Rams. Coach Jeff Neubauer somehow still has his job after winning, respectively: 8, 7, 4, 3, and 2 games in conference play over the last five seasons. The problem isn’t altogether Jeff Neubauer’s fault; the school hasn’t invested enough into this program. It will be difficult to get excited about the chances of this team this season.
Neubauer will work with a roster filled with a lot of young talent and some returning players that could be effective. Their core consists of Jalen Cobb, Ty Perry, Josh Colon, and Joel Soriano. We can expect Soriano to breakout and have a big year for the Rams. Another problem is how thin the depth off the bench is on this team. Of course, the Rams have a lot of work to do and it’s not too late to fix some of these recurring issues.
I have a lot of hope for Soriano as he could end up exploding into one of the best big men in the conference. Soriano was looking better and better as the season went on and we can only hope he can continue that momentum into this season. There simply is not enough firepower and offensive threats on this team for the Rams to become more relevant. However, the Rams did play stellar defense and were 5th in the conference in terms of defensive efficiency.
If the Rams want to move up out of the last place they must shoot a much higher percentage from the floor and it is hard to see that happen as of right now.
