Bottom Line:
Butler has a lot of players capable of playing multiple positions. They’ll generally replace Johnson by committee, but because of it, the minutes will increase for a guy like Myles Tate who will now see more minutes at point guard with Harris moving to the 2 which effectively moves Bolden to the 3.
The loss of Scooby Johnson is disappointing, but definitely not devastating. Even with him, the Bulldog’s Big East ceiling was no higher than 4th in the conference. Without him, I don’t see that changing, and basically anyone in the once again loaded and deep Big East can finish 4-11.
Long term, there is a silver lining for Johnson. He’s got plenty of time to have surgery, recover, and rehabilitate. When he’s back, he’ll join a team with a promising young nucleus that’s already got a year of college basketball experience. They were a top 30 class for a reason. The future is still bright in Indy.
