NCAA Basketball: Where will four-star 2021 wing Jahmai Mashack end up?
Arizona Wildcats
There’s some familiarity with the school for the Mashacks, since Jamai’s older brother Kwesi Mashack spent four seasons as a defensive back for the football program. The basketball program is a little more prestigious in comparison, although concerns about whether head coach Sean Miller can take the Wildcats to the next level remains.
With the exception of Jamarl Baker Jr., the wings for Arizona on the roster will all be underclassmen. Whether it’s four-star freshmen Dalen Terry, Bennedict Mathurin, or Tautvilas Tubelis, there will be plenty of competition for a starting spot at small forward.
Depending on if any emerges and then sticks around, Mashack could be entering a situation where he has to accept minutes off the bench in his first season or two. With a young roster full of unproven players, it’s a risk to commit before the season starts.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The departure of scoring guard Isaiah Joe opens up the wings a bit for the Hogs in the future, especially once grad transfers Vance Jackson and Justin Smith leave after next season. That leaves incoming top-50 shooting guard freshman Moses Moody but he fits well with the more defensive-minded Mashack in the lineup.
As much talent as Coach Eric Musselman is bringing, some of it has to come with good defense if Arkansas is going to be a real SEC contender going forward. They already have 6’5 guard Chance Moore, who also is ranked in the top-100 of 2021 class committed but the Razorbacks have shown a willingness to play small-ball, so finding playing won’t be a problem.
