Darkhorse candidates for Ben Gregg

California Bears

A great academic institution out west with plenty of available playing time, the Bears make much more sense for Gregg than say Princeton. The problem though is that Cal is in the midst of rebuilding, and even with a top-100 forward joining, will still be closer to the bottom of the Pac-12 than the top. Like Utah, there are other conference programs with more to offer for the recruit.

Texas Longhorns

The Longhorns already have four prospects in the 2021 recruiting class, including a pair of three-star forwards in David Joplin and Keeyan Itejere. On paper, Gregg has a higher ceiling, and his ability to space the floor would be great for Coach Shaka Smart and the offense overall. Assuming five-star freshman Greg Brown is gone after next season, there would be some room for the prospect as well.

Colorado Buffaloes

With six seniors on the current roster, Colorado will need to have a major recruiting class in the coming months to remain viable in the Pac-12. They’ve done well so far, landing top-100 commits Quincy Allen and Lawson Lovering. The Buffaloes could use a dynamic power forward such as Gregg to fill out the class, who would have immediate playing time available as a freshman. If he’s willing to venture out the northwest, this could be a legit option.

Oregon State Beavers

With star forward Tre Tinkle gone, there’s a huge need for a frontcourt player to step in and provide some offense for the Beavers after next season. Being close to home is a plus along with playing time but besides the program being lower-tier in the Pac-12, there isn’t a guarantee that head coach Wayne Tinkle will survive after this upcoming season. And it doesn’t help that there’s an even better local option for Gregg to consider.
