Frontrunners to land Ben Gregg

Oregon Ducks

If Gregg really wants to stay in the state, the Ducks will be the prime option. They’ve been after the prospect for a while and has been at the top of the Pac-12 for nearly the past decade. The concern though is that he has a similar playing style to former top-50 recruit Isaac Johnson, who has returned from a two-year mission. Those two, along with Chandler Lawson would be fighting for playing time in 2021-22, along with which transfers join in the offseason.

Arizona Wildcats

Considered at one point to be the favorite to land Gregg, the Wildcats are still in the game thanks to arguably the top recruiter out west in Coach Sean Miller. He landed several international forwards this offseason, but all of them are still unknown, as well as Nevada transfer and former five-star recruit Jordan Brown. But if Gregg is willing to commit early and take the risk, Arizona would be getting a top offensive prospect who can contribute early on.

USC Trojans

Already with four commits in the 2021 recruiting class, the Trojans have added to the future roster with plenty of perimeter firepower. But they’re a bit thin in the frontcourt at the moment, primarily at power forward if five-star freshman Evan Mobley decides to leave after this upcoming season. If his brother Isaiah Mobley leaves as well, Gregg could benefit greatly with playing time. But can the Trojans compete with a few programs that have made bigger pushes for the player this offseason?

Gonzaga Bulldogs

Originally thought to not be in play, the Bulldogs’ recent scholarship offer has put them in the driver seat for Gregg’s commitment. With him and his family growing up in the Spokane area, Gonzaga represents the true “hometown” option for the recruit and a chance to play for a nationally recognized program. With Paolo Banchero off to Duke, the Bulldogs focused more on Gregg, using their past development of forwards Brandon Clarke and Rui Hachimura, now in the NBA.

If either Drew Timme or Anton Watson departs after next season, Gregg can find his way into the rotation. And although they reside in the WCC, Gonzaga Basketball is arguably the best program out west. So if he wants to stay out there and be close to home, what better option is there than Coach Mark Few and the Bulldogs?

Don’t be surprised if they’re the ones to get the commitment.
