SEC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
2019-20 SEC Record: 11-7
I am sure that many Florida fans were thrown off by Andrew Nembhard’s decision to transfer to Gonzaga in the off-season, and I don’t think they were too happy about it. The Gators will be without an intelligent guard, who doesn’t let his lack of speed deter him from getting off quality looks. Fortunately for the Gators, Nembhard’s departure isn’t the end of the world, as they have guards such as Tre Mann, and Ques Glover prepared to step in, and increase their production from a season ago.
Scottie Lewis’ decision to return to school, after initially declaring for the NBA was massive for the Gators because it gives Mike White (Florida head coach) another player he can help polish as the season goes on. Keyontae Johnson and Noah Locke are vital to the Gators’ success this year, as White will rely on them heavily for scoring this season. (especially behind the arc)
The loss of versatile big, Kerry Blackshear Jr. (who was a graduate player last season) was significant for sure, as it will put more pressure on the guards to produce at a high level. However, I believe that because Florida was able to finish 5th in the SEC a season ago and get five key players to stick around for another season, the Gators could finish in the top 5 once again.
