8. San Diego Toreros

Last season: 9-23 (2-14) 9th Place

While I’m sure fans of the Pacific Tigers will be dismayed to see the San Diego Toreros finishing ahead of them in the WCC standings, it is something that could very well happen. The Toreros are getting the majority of their core from last season back, giving third-year coach Sam Scholl a lot of familiar faces to work with.

On top of their returning core, the Toreros were able to bring in some recruits from power conferences that should play nicely in terms of the team progressing in 2020-2021. Yavuz Gultekin from Texas A&M and Chris Herron Jr. from Boston College should bring some much-needed depth and experience vs. quality competition (granted, they didn’t play much).

I see Scholl and the Toreros returning somewhere near their 2018-2019 form, a team that won 20 games in Scholl’s first season as head coach. While I don’t think they will win 20 this season, I definitely see them improving on their 9-23 record from last season.
