Why you should know Tyrn Flowers

The senior big man had his breakout season a year ago, and because of that, he enters the year as one of the best returning players in the league. Flowers started his career in the Atlantic 10 as a member of the UMass Minutemen. He showed signs of his potential during his freshman campaign. His overall lack of quality playing time along with the commitment of star Tre Mitchell could have been part of the reasons he decided to transfer after only one season.

Flowers has been one of the better players for Long Island since he has been eligible to take the floor. His first season in the conference saw him earn third-team all-conference and average a little under 14 points per game and posted eight double-doubles. Last season it was reasonable for the LIU coaching staff to expect a lot out of Flowers and he delivered having a breakout year last season.

Flowers scored just over 14 points per game last year and averaged close to 10 rebounds a contest as well. There is not much that the big man can’t do he can score inside, including shooting a ton of threes (30% clip), and makes his free throws 71% of the time. Perhaps the most important part of the seniors game is his prowess on the defensive end.

He is one of the best defenders in the league and averaged close to two blocks per game a year ago. The forward also led the Sharks in steals and was their best defender all year long. Flowers is not known much outside of the Northeast Conference bubble and that is because of the lack of exposure of his conference, but he can play this game at a high level, and he has a game that is going to get serious looks from the professional leagues.
