Guards for Baylor Basketball

The first guard that usually comes to mind is Jared Butler. Butler played 75% of the minutes last year for the Bears and lead the team in scoring. He was a unanimous All-Big 12 player last year and will likely repeat and looks to do the same but on a national level.

Baylor was known for its guard play for good reason. The other two guards that come to mention played even more minutes than Butler. Davion Mitchell played 80% of the time for the Bears probably because of his defensive presence, being a semi-finalist for the Defensive Player of the Year award and also leading the team in assists, and MaCio Teague too played 75% of the time while leading the team in FT%.

With all 3 guards returning I wouldn’t assume too much will change in the rotation, assuming everyone can stay healthy. Devante Bandoo was a clutch player coming off the bench that was a senior so someone will have to fill that role who’s also hopefully a threat from deep. Bandoo played 64% of the time and was the Big 12 Sixth-Man of the Year hitting over 38% of his three’s.

Adam Flagler was a transfer that had to sit out last year so he is likely to fill those shoes along with Jordan Turner who is a 6’7” G/F who sat out his Freshman year and was a top 25 recruit at small forward according to ESPN. Jackson Moffatt was also a freshman who only saw a few minutes so expect that to increase this season. LJ Cryer is a highly recruited incoming freshman this year but if Scott Drew sticks to his developmental system he’ll likely sit out for a year.
