NCAA Basketball: Way-too-early takeaways from 2021 recruiting classes
What remaining top-tier recruiting battles should you watch for?
Although many class of 2021 recruits has made their decisions, there are some five-star players whose process still looks to be wide open. Here are some prospects to keep an eye on in the coming months.
Daimion Collins (No. 19 overall)
A 6’9 power forward/center propsect, Collins is from the state of Texas and plans on staying in the region. The main players in this recruitment are Texas and Oklahoma, with Texas Tech also in the mix. With Greg Brown likely gone after this season, the Longhorns would benefit greatly from adding this big man. Meanwhile, the Sooners have the most playing time to offer.
Efton Reid (No. 22 overall)
Still in the early stages of his recruitment, Reid is a 6’11 center that hasn’t come out with any lists. The teams reportedly in the mix include Louisville, Virginia, Michigan, and Pittsburgh. With not many quality centers available at Reid’s level, expect the teams involved to aggressively target this one.
Aminu Mohammed (No. 14 overall)
A 6’5 wing from Washington D.C., Mohammed is taking his time as well. This is an interesting recruitment because local program Georgetown is in the mix and landing him could singlehandedly save Coach Ewing’s job in any circumstance. But Big Ten teams Indiana and Maryland are viewed as the favorites right now. Yet the longer this goes, the better the odds the Hoyas have.
Other NCAA Basketball prospects to watch include Moussa Diabate, Hunter Sallis, and Mike Foster, who could be the one in the entire class to go pro instead of colllege. We already know plenty now regarding the 2021 recruiting class but there is plenty more to learn in the coming months.
