Brooklyn Nets

Arguably the biggest need for the Brooklyn Nets ahead of the 2020-21 season is a third star to play alongside Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant – apparently, the hiring of Steve Nash as head coach doesn’t count. Regardless, it doesn’t seem likely they’ll find that star in the draft, at least not right away.

What they can find is a power forward. Durant is capable of playing there if the team brings back Joe Harris and decides to start the sharpshooter at small forward. Otherwise, the only true power forward the team has is Rodions Kurucs, who averaged 4.6 points and 2.9 rebounds per game off the bench last season.

Brooklyn’s first-round pick is scheduled for No. 19. Former DePaul star Paul Reed could be an interesting fit at that pick. He doesn’t mind bruising around on the inside, averaging 10.7 rebounds per game as a junior. He’s a bit older than many prospects at 21 years old, but his defensive versatility could pay dividends for the Nets.

The Nets also pick near the end of the draft, at No. 55. Anyone selected there would be more of a developmental project for the Nets, which doesn’t necessarily vibe with the “win-now” credo attached to Durant and Irving. If they keep the pick, they might go international with someone like Paul Eboua, a Cameroonian who stands tall at 6’8″ with a mammoth 7’3″ wingspan.
