Seton Hall Basketball: 3 reasons why Pirates will survive without Myles Powell
By Joe Casey
3. Overall experience of the Pirates
The Big East is not a conference that can flash the best facilities or promise the biggest exposure to recruits. However, the reason Seton Hall has been able to find success as a perennial contender for the Big East championship is because of experience.
Starting with the Isaiah Whitehead class, the Pirates have been able to retain most of their best players for four years. This upcoming season is no exception as Sandro Mamukelashvili and Myles Cale are poised to continue to carry the torch.
Mamukelashvili made the decision to come back to school after testing the NBA draft waters and has begun to garner buzz as a legitimate NBA prospect. While Cale does not have the same NBA buzz, at the college level he has always been a steady hand in the rotation known among fans for hitting big shots in crunch time.
Additional upperclassmen to watch are big man Ike Obiagu as this will be his second year working with Grant Billmeier and forward Jared Rhoden. Last year, you were able to see flashes of the potential Rhoden possesses.
If he can capture that potential and deliver it consistently the Pirates will not only survive without Myles Powell, but they could put themselves in a position to make a deep tournament run.
