AAC Basketball: Preseason power rankings for 2020-21 season
Trying to describe what happened in Wichita this offseason is almost impossible, Greg Marshall will find himself with an almost completely new roster this season following what was a max exodus of players this spring. Six scholarship players left the Shockers this spring after numerous reports came out about internal issues with attitude and ego problems.
Greg Marshall came out and took responsibility for the turmoil and has said that he needs to learn and do better, the program will look to turn the page quickly and rebuild the program.
With eight guys gone there’s almost a whole new group of guys for Greg Marshall to work with next season. Dexter Dennis and Tyson Etienne will remain as one of the best duo backcourts in the league but there are so many questions everywhere else.
UConn transfer Alterique Gilbert should be an immediate impact at the point guard spot, he’s a solid player that’s had an injury-riddled career but he’s already very familiar with the Shockers and the AAC landscape. Both junior college guards Craig Porter and Tevin Wade are highly skilled players that are capable of contributing immediately.
Greg Marshall needs a strong season to calm an anxious fan base and ensure that the mass transfers were just a one-time thing. With a new-look team and few returners, this season will likely be Greg Marshall’s most difficult yet. The Shockers should be a middle of the pack teams this season but it’s hard to say for sure given the revamp on the roster.
