Dominick Harris and Julian Strawther key pieces for the future

Suggs gets the national attention but Gonzaga has a pair of other top-70 freshmen on the roster. Harris and Strawther, who along with Suggs is nicknamed the “Tricky Trio”. Harris started it all, who committed to the program nearly two years ago and helped convinced his friends to join later on.

The 6’4 guard Rancho Christian can play both positions, playing on and off the ball. He’s a good athlete and shooter and, can play a complementary role off the bench in the first couple of seasons. With grad transfer Aaron Cook as the backup point guard, look for Harris to spell for Ayayi at the two-guard position.

Strawther is a 6’7 combo forward that can shoot the ball at a high level and is a two-way player. In the WCC, he certainly can play at the four-spot, with his spacing being huge for the offense. With the return of Corey Kispet for his senior season, it’s hard to see him get more than double-digit minutes unless Coach Few wants to go small at the power forward spot.

The Bulldogs usually use an 8-9 man rotation, and there are six players definitely part of it. Seven assuming center Oumar Ballo gets minutes as well. Both Harris and Strawther will be fighting Martynas Arlauskas and Pavel Zahkarov for the last two spots and they could reasonably get it.

But their roles certainly will be bigger in future years. And while Suggs may be “one and done”, these two flying under the radar will make their own impact and make “Tricky Trio” a popular fan nickname.
