Big 12 Basketball: Ranking of top 15 players for 2020-21 season
By Andrew Tineo
one of the three main NBA prospects from last years Big 12 came from the transfer from UNC-Asheville, Macio Teague. With the uncertainty of the draft, and a chance for Baylor to make a big run, the Senior decided to stay at Baylor for one last run at a championship.
Teague posted nearly 14 PPG and shot 40% from the field a year ago. Teague proved to be a 3 point threat at UNC Asheville, connecting on nearly 44% of his 3’s, in the Big South.
Teague has similar shiftiness as Butler when cutting to the basket as he is very good at making off-balanced shots. Teague doesn’t have the defensive intensity as most of the Baylor squad but can hold his on that end of the floor.
The Monteverde alumni has a unique skillset of making shots off the dribble. His offensive skillset of pulling up and using step-back moves to create space is elite among CBB players.
Like mentioned before, Teague doesn’t quite have the intensity on defense to match his offense. Teague’s 3 point percentage did go down last year, shooting just a pedestrian 35% from beyond the arc.
With all of that being said, Teague’s shot-creating ability and above-average passing makes him one of the better guards in the conference. With the plethora of Guards at Baylor with Mitchell, Butler, and Teague, it doesn’t put all the pressure on one to have a big game, in order to win.
