2020 NBA Draft: 5 prospects flying under radar for upcoming draft
Skylar Mays, SF, LSU
If you want a pure 3-and-D wing on your team, Skylar Mays is your guy.
After averaging 16.7 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while shooting almost 40% from 3 in his senior year at LSU, Mays is one of the more accomplished, high-floor players in this class. He’s 23 years old, which will make teams overthink his potential and what he can bring to a team.
But take a look at what Cam Johnson brought to the Phoenix Suns in his rookie season. A 4-year player in college, the Suns knew what they were getting with Johnson. He’s a great shooter and his defense improved throughout the year, and he looked tremendous in the bubble.
This is what Mays can bring to a team, great shooting, and solid defense. His college experience could end up being advantageous, so long as he’s drafted into the right situation. It would be ideal if he were drafted onto a playoff team, like the Philadelphia 76ers for example, a team that lacks shooting. He can be used off the bench as a spot-up guy at the wing and be an immediate contributor.
Mays is a guy who if drafted to the right team can be a really good player.
