Florida State Seminoles

McGowens was the first commit of the impressive 2021 class currently, before Cleveland and fellow five-star combo guard Jalen Warley joined this offseason. A potential scenario could have all three start a year from, depending on what else happens to the roster.

MJ Walker is a senior, so he’ll be leaving the program regardless after next season. Five-star freshman Scottie Barnes is considered a “point/forward”, who very well could go pro after just one season. RayQuan Evans and JUCO newcomer Sardaar Calhoun are current  juniors but will have to prove that they’re worth starting in 2021-22 over these freshmen,

It may not include McGowens though, as he has four other options for the Seminoles to contend. However, this program can still make the case that they’re the best landing spot when it comes to winning big in the next couple of years.

Nebraska is years from even making a real run at an NCAA Tournament appearance, while the LSU Tigers may not even be eligible (more on that in a bit). Georgia is in better shape than the Cornhuskers but needs more than McGowens to make a run in the SEC. Michigan is the most competitive but the familiarity with the Seminoles program should give them a possible edge.

With Cleveland on board, Florida State won’t be too devastated to lose out on McGowens in the 2021 class. But it certainly would hurt, as they invested a ton of time into his recruitment and commitment. The good news is that the blue bloods aren’t part of his recruitment this time around. The bad news is that it may not matter in the end.
