Georgia Bulldogs

There are three things that are in favor of the Bulldogs in their efforts to land McGowens. The first, and maybe most importantly, is that the program is an hour away from where the star recruit grew up, making them the defacto “hometown” option on this list.

Another benefit is the heavy playing time the shooting guard will be offered as a freshman. There’s no Cleveland to compete with, as projected off-ball starters Justin Kier and Andrew Garcia are both grad transfers and will be gone after this season.

It also helps that starting point guard Sahvir Wheeler is more of the “pass first” kind, giving tremendous scoring opportunities for McGowens as the go-to option on offense. Without much of a frontcourt to speak of, the recruit will have the ball in his hands a ton.

That would certainly help showcase his talents and propel him in a similar way the last starting shooting guard for Georgia did. Anthony Edwards was another former five-star recruit who went to the Bulldogs and scored 20 ppg and is set to at worst, be a top-3 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.

Those certainly are legit appealing points for McGowens to consider but they’ll have to add more than just him in the 2021 class to be a true contender for an NCAA Tournament spot. If they could land another five-star prospect in forward Michael Foster though, that could change Georgia’s chances.
